I’m interested in your group and events. The upcoming event seems to be for advanced participants.

Since I’m inexperienced in this art, what would you recommend as the best way to develop the necessary skills?

Hi, Helen! The Mentor Meet-up is a follow-up session from the one done at our February Calligraphy Night, where people did some pen manipulation and experimented with the green-capped 3.8 mm pen. It’s for every level, and those who are more experienced will just do more complicated lettering/flourishing. Beginners will just get comfortable with the pen and find our how to make marks with it an manipulate it. There will be a few experienced people there to help you. My advice to newbies is to just “Jump right in!”

The sooner you begin your calligraphic journey, the more fun you will have. If you just come as a drop-in, go to Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/pilot-parallel-pen-pizzazz-tickets-91666991439?aff=ebdssbdestsearch
and buy a ticket ($20 + fees). If you decide to take out a $45 membership (again, through Eventbrite http://edmontoncalligraphicsociety.ca/membership/), it is free. It’s good value, as you’ll get 2 Mentor Meet-ups and 3 Calligraphy Nights worth $95 if you do them as a drop-in! If you purchase an ECS Membership, I will see that you’ve bought it and remove the last Meet-up spot on Eventbrite so no one takes your it.

I hope this helps you decide!
