OPEN WORKSHOP for MEMBERS ONLY
Friday, April 19th, 2013 from 12:00pm – 2:00pm at The Paint Spot

Decorate and Design on fabric.
Canvas bags will be available at a minimal cost. Various methods of fabric design will be demonstrated. Please bring a black micron pen, pencil, cutting tool and mat, inktense pencils, #4 round brush and small palette to mix paints.

Our Fabric design…Calligraphabric… project will begin.
Bring your ideas and some of your calligraphic work and words or bring your pens and ink to create a new piece of calligraphic art for the project. A demonstration of how the calligraphy can be developed into a fabric design will be presented. All members who contribute artwork will be required to sign a release agreement whereby all artwork used becomes the property of the Edmonton Calligraphic Society for use in fundraising initiatives.

Workshop registrations must be secured with full payment by Friday, April 19 midnight. Cheques can be dropped off at the homes of any member of the executive or brought to the Paint Spot Open Studio on Friday afternoon.

Make sure to set your overdue library books beside the door this week as our amnesty on library fines ends this month! The Library committee will conduct its annual inventory, so bring back your books & magazines. Unreturned materials will begin earning a $5/item fine so give your books to a friend to take to the meeting for you if you can’t make it this Thursday. Committee Chairs, binders are due to be received also in preparation for the annual changeover of roles & responsibilities.

Thanks to everyone who brought treats for our February meeting! This month, we will have the coffee pot on (decaf, of course), tea & snacks to enjoy while we visit. Come early (6:15pm) to browse the Library & Supplies closets. Our programme will focus upon drawing inspiration and colour ideas from stamps. Try to bring a mug, name tag and any projects recently completed.

OPEN WORKSHOP for MEMBERS ONLY
Friday, February 15th, 2013 from 12:00pm – 2:00pm at The Paint Spot
Join in the creative fun! If you wish to participate in a group project, we will begin making folders for the committee chair binders (about 15 of them will be decorated with fabric or paint). Jackie Doll will generously provide the stuff we need, so don’t go out and buy anything! We will be using fabric paint, stencils, stamps, fabric, iron. Demo begins at 12:30 and the studio is open for you to practice new techniques, get feedback on new or in-progress artwork, or just use the time to tackle your own projects.

Completed pieces on the theme of Food/Coffee will be collected for the traveling art trunk.

Executive meeting starts at 3:00 p.m. You are welcome to stay and participate with your fellow members. And remember…The Paint Spot offers a discount on all products while we are in their space.

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Learn to calligraph interesting and innovative numerals for your Snail Mail. Supplies: bring a pencil, ruler, eraser, a bit of paper and black markers with a variety tips (chisel, brush, monoline) and thicknesses. Throw in a few coloured pencils but leave your ink bottles and paints at home this month.

Bring a card…take a card! Valentine Card Exchange (participation is optional).

We are returning to the old library system… so bring your books back on time!!
In an effort to get books circulating to as many people as possible, we are reinstating the old fine system of $5/per item/per month. If you can’t make it to a meeting, pass your overdue items to a friend to return for you.

Don’t forget a nametag and coffee mug.

File Box Follies begins when you get here. Doors of the church open at 6:30 and if you are buying or selling the action starts right off the hop! Each member is limited to ONE file box of items to sell. Have everything priced clearly and bring your own float to make change.

Also on sale tonight are the tickets ($10) for the December Social (see graphics below) and membership renewals are due!

A long time calligrapher has donated gobs of supplies including Coit pens. If you don’t know what those are…google them. These supplies will be sold in grab bags of $10 and $20…at a huge discount… one time only. Come prepared to make the rush to the ECS table where they will be sold.

Coffee time and snacks will occur during the sale to allow the Calligraphic program on colour theory to begin at 8 p.m. The program will be presented by Rose Frank.

Supplies list: aqua brush (if you have one) or small container of water and a round brush; watercolours in primary colours, red, yellow and blue (you can use watercolour pencils or crayons); 2-3, 5 x 7 watercolour papers (can be used on one side), we will be making a chart; and plastic lid or mixing tray to mix colours.

Our meeting will be held once again at the Steinhauer Church, 10740 – 19th Ave. Doors will open at 6:15pm for access to the library and supplies closet. This week, we will be offering Parallel Pens and Tyvek from the supplies closet. Come early for the best selection! Our meeting proper will begin at 7pm with an alphabet programme on uncial letters to follow. Try to bring a nametag, coffee mug and creations you have made lately at home or at a workshop. We love to hear/see what you are working on! The programme will be led by Jeanine A. & Wendy G., centering on a colour theme of green for March (a supply list will be sent out). CONGRATULATIONS ON AN AWESOME SHOWING AT THE MUTTART! Thursday will be an exciting meeting of calligraphic minds with programming and surprises to continue our 25th Anniversary celebrations. Look for Francie’s supply list to be in your mailboxes shortly.

I’d just like to remind everyone that we will be starting the meeting sharp at 7:00pm. Please come between 6:15pm-7:00pm to purchase supplies and view library materials.

Membership is due this month. Please confirm your address, email and phone numbers with the Membership Committee as you renew.

We will have treats for sale, so toss some twoonies into your pocket and, of course, tickets for monthly raffle prizes are $1 each or 3 / $2.

To enter the draw for $50 you must bring your completed project from last month’s goodie-bag challenge!!!

Christmas Social tickets will be available at the meeting! Mark your calendars for December 1st!

Newsletters are in! Pick yours up in person or ask a friend to deliver yours if you can’t make it to the meeting. Back-issues will be available for a steal on Thursday… fill the gaps in your collection or gift one to a friend.

2011-2012 ECS kick off is this Thursday at 7:00pm.

Please bring a basic calligraphy kit and a twoonie ($2) for the programme.

Thursday is drop-off day for all those participating in the Muttart Gallery show. Pieces must be wrapped securely in a black garbage bag with your name and contact info included inside. NOTE: these bags will not be sorted or inventoried at the meeting (they will be opened and sorted later at the committee’s homes) so you need to include your information inside the bags!!!

It’s been a while since our last meeting, so bring your summer reading books back to the library.

Membership is due in October for the new year. Please remember to bring a cheque ($40).

Looking forward to a fun night! Refreshments will be provided.
