Ink Drops, July, 2020

Hello COVID Calligraphers!

Well, these last few weeks have been very exciting! The programming we have initiated with our professional calligraphers is gaining attention, both across Canada, and into the US! As people learn what an extraordinary value they will get from becoming an ECS member, they have been searching us out and signing on!

Membership Renewal

Of the last 31 memberships we’ve received, 22 have been new ECS members as of July 9! We are strongly encouraging our own ECS members to get your renewal registrations completed and delivered with your payment, because we miss you and want you back! This will be a calligraphy year not to be missed. The opportunity to learn from so many highly-respected professionals is unique.

We want to welcome Betty-Lynn Morrice, Thea Paul, Yogi Grunwald, Rosemary Maundrell, and Alma Taylor (Calgary), Bev Duke (Medicine Hat), Christine Ahmad and Karen Wimmer (Red Deer, Alberta), Jennifer Peddlesden (Chestermere, Alberta), Aline Chan (Breslau, Ontario), Valerie Akkerman, Shannon Dooling, Patricia Williams, and Violet Smythe (Surrey, BC), Shirley Wong (Vancouver), Sherry Springall (New Westminster), Glenda Uthe (Kelowna, BC), Becky Riepe (Port Angeles, Washington), Laura Blaine (Kirkland, Washington), and Wendy Orr (Nokesville, Virginia), Alesia Zorn (Portland, Oregon), and Linda O’Neill to our Edmonton Calligraphic Society family!

If you are a former ECS member and have not renewed your membership, hurry up! Get your renewal going through Eventbrite. We specifically organized our 2020-2021 year to make sure you had the opportunity to continue learning and growing as a calligrapher, even though we can’t meet, and are very excited about the high-quality instruction to which you will have access beginning in September. You must sign and forward your membership form to access the Zoom/online sessions.

Remember…once you have renewed, Henry will email you the link to Sally Towers-Sybblis’ video with instructions for creating this bold accordion book (see below). When you create your own version, please take a photo and send it to me to include in the next Ink Drops! gfournier@telus.net We want to see how you interpret this little incentive project with a word that is meaningful to you.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

As this pandemic continues, our professional calligraphers have ventured out into the virtual world and have been reinventing the way they deliver their classes. Many of you have been participating in these ZOOM classes, and we’d welcome a short review of your experiences to help others decide if a particular class is right for them. Thanks to all who shared these wonderful envelopes and inserts!

COVID PROJECTS

A few people have sent me photos of projects they have done over the last few months, but I know more of you have been busy. We want to see what you have been working on, be it practicing a new letter style, making window encouragements, writing a quote, creating a piece of art, or writing a shopping list with monoline Italic. Please share your projects and I’ll put them into the August Ink Drops! Send them to me at gfournier@telus.net

Happy lettering!
