Edmonton Calligraphic Society

September, 2017

The first meeting of the year was a great one. Thanks to all who attended and helped with the setup and take down. The executive meeting was very short… just the way we all like it.

There will be four more executive meetings throughout the ECS year as per our bylaws.

Now available at monthly meetings.  Locally sourced supply packages and paper pads are popular items for members to purchase. Remember… you can pay cash, cheque or credit card.

September 30th,  Noon-3:00

Alberta Cultural Days at the Winspear.  We will be making mini books with decorated letters. Volunteers needed.

November 18th

There will be a Christmas Workshop(DIY) at Ritchie Hall. This is an all day event (9:00-12:00 & 1:00-4:00). ECS will run a Christmas lettering project for the participants. At present we are contemplating personalized Christmas ornaments. Send your suggestions to any member of the executive team. We are facilitating others… no one will ask you to do live lettering. Come and support your group to introduce and promote calligraphy in Edmonton. We would like 5 volunteers to do each 3-hour shift (10 volunteers in total).

There is a downloadable booklet on our website that will help you source local calligraphy supplies. We have tried to give names of good products and a little rationale for the choices You do not need all of this to get started!

PENS Program

There have been some changes to the PENS program (Preserving, Educating, Nurturing, Script) following some interviews on CHED radio about our initiative.

Watch for classes at The Paint Spot, City Arts & Metro.

If you are teaching calligraphy and/or a related art we encourage you to advertise on the ECS website. The cost is $25/year. Your name and a description of your work will remain on the website for one calendar year. To check out the ECS artists currently advertizing there.

The archiving of ECS materials will begin soon. The motion to do so was unanimously carried. There will be one more chance to identify photos for the archives. The photos that are unknown will be available for members to take or to be discarded after shredding. (Privacy act)

ECS meeting days are held on the first Wednesday of the month in Rm 231 at Mill Woods Seniors and Multicultural Centre 2619 Hewes Way, Edmonton. Because Rm 231 is a studio space refreshments cannot be served.
