“And the Small Become Great” Workshop

As many of you know, this spring workshop takes place May 6-7 and is being taught by LynnAnn Babuk who has graciously offered to be our guest artist. She will be teaching lettering for use in jewelry making, bookmarks, writing cards, and painting. A supply list will be forwarded to registrants and there is an additional fee of $15.00 payable to LynnAnn for specialty ordered items. Look for class examples at upcoming meetings and in future issues of Ink Drops. You can register for this workshop at the April meeting or on Eventbrite.

Check out LynnAnn doing a lettering demo and representing ECS on City TV’s Dinner Television web-program Mentors and Makers. You can find it at http://www.dinnertelevision.ca/videos/5312967657001/.

The ECS Executive Team members have been working on the 2017-18 calendar of events. There are many interesting and creative developments in the works for the next year! We value input from our members. If there is an instructor, artist or calligrapher whose talents would benefit ECS, please let us know. We value your ideas!

February Outreach

ECS was asked to be part of the annual Free Will Players Brunch of Love fundraiser on February 5th at the Royal Mayfair Golf & Country Club. Now in its 9th year, the fundraiser included live and silent auctions, a delicious brunch and local performers. As in the past, this event had excellent attendance (approximately 80 people) and it was a great way to promote ECS as well as support the festival. Three very dedicated ECS members were there to demonstrate calligraphy and provide information on ECS and its initiatives. Thank-you Jeanine Alexander, LynnAnn Babuk and Gail Fournier for being there to represent ECS.

Four ECS members attended the Chinese New Year event to promote calligraphy. Thanks goes to Jackie Doll, LynnAnn, Jeanine and Gail. Way to go, ladies!

Serendipity!

ECS has an opportunity to partner in an evening fundraising event with a local Women’s Senior Softball team. The evening includes a stage performance by hypnotist Keith Miller, a silent auction and food. According to Keith’s website, he “is one of the most engaging and charismatic performers in western Canada. After many years of studying magic, Keith stumbled across a hypnosis DVD and was instantly hooked. His performing background in magic made the transition seamless and he fell in love with studying any form of hypnosis he could get involved with.  He is a certified stage hypnotist, certified hypnotherapist, and sports performance expert. At every show, Keith has new volunteers do wild and zany things like becoming incredible boy bands, badminton racket banjo players, or falling in love with the wink of his eye.  Any event becomes unforgettable with Keith’s comedy hypnosis show.” For more information on his performances, go to http://www.keithmiller.ca. This is a great opportunity to help ECS raise funds while having fun at the same time! For tickets please contact ECS through our Facebook pages or this website’s contact page.

Annual General Meeting

This is an early reminder that ECS will hold its AGM on May 3rd. Now is the time to learn what it takes to be an Executive member if you are considering a position on the Executive Team. There are also short term positions such as Membership and Library. Talk to an Executive Team member if you are interested in these volunteer opportunities.

 Volunteer Appreciation Night

ECS will be show its appreciation by planning a workshop night for its members on June 7th. Sally Towers-Sybblis will facilitate a mini-book workshop that would normally cost $75 per person. But ECS will subsidize this workshop so it is anticipated that the cost will be only $25/person to attend. Light snacks will be served. For more information on Sally, go to https://sallytowerssybblis.com/.

There are still a few ECS items for sale. Please support ECS by purchasing these unique gifts for yourself or your calligraphy friends.
