Back at you…

With the Canada Post situation still unsettled we are erring on the side of caution and sending this to include all 2015/16 members and trust you will be renewing your membership at the newly reduced price. Memberships will soon go on sale through Eventbrite.

The first Executive/Changeover meeting has taken place and we have some news to share…

Our move to the beautiful new Mill Woods Seniors & Multicultural Centre, Room 229, is in progress. Library books, newly-received newsletters, an ingenious backdrop for your art work, and Tools of the Trade worktables with new table covers (we can use ink in this location) await you on Wednesday, September 7th at 6:45 pm.

Letters & Lines

We suggest an 8×8 inch format for your lettering projects this year. The theme for September is Movin’ and Groovin’. (see attachment) Gail Fournier will lead the shared learning portion of this meeting, which is newly-named, ‘Letters and Lines’.

Alberta Culture Days

We have a spot at the Winspear Theatre, and hope to do a ‘Make and Take’ activity. We will be doing the highly successful mini booklets that we sent to California last year, and will teach guests how to draw Modern Versals on their book covers.

ALL members are welcome to come out to introduce and promote calligraphy in Edmonton. Details will follow but save the dates… September 30 – October 2. Please sign up for a shift at the meeting. A press release is about to be dropped regarding our 30th anniversary celebration, October 6th at the Prince of Wales Armoury. Viewing of a Heritage (copy) Edition of the Saint John’s Bible http://www.saintjohnsbible.org/ will be hosted by ECS with guest Dr. Helen Komeniuk from St. Mary’s University in Calgary. Tickets will be posted on Eventbrite. A brief celebratory program, followed by light refreshments, will take place at 7:00 pm.

General Meeting Programs

This year we will be offering Brush Lettering, Gothicized Italic, Akim, and Versals in our meetings. These intro classes are free to members but cost $20 each on Eventbrite for guests.

Our ECS Team

Please contact any member of the executive for further information about ECS events or initiatives. At present we are condensing and clarifying some of the Executive positions. (More info in September)

Our Treasurer is ready to do the year-end audit and this is the perfect time for someone to step in and shadow the process to ensure continuity for next year.

We could use support and fresh ideas for the development of programming and grant acquisitions. Come join the team!

Thank you to my new executive for their vision, dedication and special touches…the mail out in June, the meeting date reminder paste paper envelope, sensitivity to timelines and task completion, workshop attendance, website creation and re-branding, and so much more.

Special thanks to Sanjit for his amazing contributions to the website and to LynnAnn for guiding the process. This was an onerous task and much is yet to be done…can you help? Call us!

And finally….Here We Grow Again!
