Next up: Printmaking Pizazz
Tina Cho will guide us through the discovery of a collage printmaking method called collagraph. Participants will create a relief plate by gluing various textural materials onto it and then protecting the surface with a coat of varnish or acrylic medium. Later they will print the plate using the relief printing technique; however, the plate could also be printed as intaglio. Participants will incorporate some form of calligraphic elements into the design of the plate.

Last workshop: “A To Zentangle”
Jackie Doll lead us in the creation of an alphabet and a Jacob’s ladder book to house it.

Starting with Faber-Castell Fiber tipped Pit Brush Pens we will move to the Pentel Colour Brush as well as others to create great strokes & letters. It’s freeing and exciting to express your creativity with the brush.

FRIDAY JANUARY 20TH & SATURDAY JANUARY 21SH, 2012

MARBLING with Sonja Idema Marbling Paper Edmonton Workshop 2012
Marbling has roots dating back to twelfth-century Japan, fifteenth-century Turkey, Persia and India and sixteenth-century Europe. It is a single print process which is done by manipulating paint that is floated on the surface of a thickened water solution. This one or two day session will touch briefly on the history of marbling and provide knowledge of skills and supplies needed to create lovely marbled patterned designs on paper. The workshop will be done in a “step-by step” fashion for your ease in learning the techniques of marbling onto paper which can later be sues for cardmaking, book making and other such craft-work. Some supplies and homework are necessary before coming to the workshop. A supply list and homework instructions will be provided prior to the class date.

This class is for beginners and also those who have taken Sonja’s previous classes in marbling. Those with experience will be able to do extra work.

BOOKHAND BASICS FOR BEGINNERS with Jeanine Alexander

Beginners Workshop Fall 2011

This workshop is specifically designed for our new members and will teach you how to us a chisel nib. We will begin with a felt marker.(supplied) and progress to more traditional calligraphic tools. Participants are required to bring a SpeedballC-2 nib and a nib holder. Higgins Eternal ink (black) is preferred and available at local art and craft stores. Two types of paper pads will be available for purchase from the instructor at a cost of $6.00 each. We will complete the lower case of this alphabet, briefly examine the matching capital letters and some variations, and complete one project in class. A few additional art supplies such as a pencil, eraser, ruler, some coloured pencils and a glue stick would be an asset to your learning.

FUN LETTERING with Yogi

DAY 1, 9:30am – 4:30pm You will learn a basic monoline alphabet with character. It’s great for journaling, creating focal points on cards and envelopes, or just about anywhere you need something different than just plain hand writing. You will then learn how to expand on that alphabet to decorate letters. We will make or at least start to make an exemplar of various decorating techniques. We will try to work on watercolour paper and both white and black cardstock.

DAY 2, 9:30am – 4:30pmIn this class you will learn a fun and funky lettering style with lots of curls We’ll do lots of colouring techniques with coloured pencils, watercolour pencils, gel pens etc.

✴ Please print clearly. Cheques will be deposited prior to class start and will be refunded only if the classes are cancelled. If you are unable to attend a class for which you are registered, you must sell your spot to another member or someone on the waiting list.
