Calpic-1Edmonton Calligraphic Society presents a viewing of one volume of the Heritage Edition of the Saint John’s Bible on Thursday, October 6, 4pm – 6:30pm at Prince of Wales Armouries Heritage Centre, 10440 108 Avenue Northwest, 2nd Floor, West Terrace, Edmonton, AB T6L 6W6

Please join us to celebrate our 30th anniversary.

This stunning example of a modern approach to the art of hand lettering is steeped in the historic tradition of hand lettered bibles. Even with the advantage of modern day technology to plan page layouts, the project took over seven years to complete at a cost of 8M dollars.

Special printing techniques were developed to ensure that the  reproductions in the full sized replica Heritage volumes accurately duplicate the visual effect of the original pages which were written on calfskin vellum with hand cut quills and ancient Chinese stick ink. Gold and silver leaf and natural handmade inks were use to decorate and illustrate the pages.

Donald Jackson, calligrapher and artistic director for the project, received an Apostolic Knighthood for outstanding service on June 15, 2016.

The GOSPELS/ACTS volume will be on site at the Prince of Wales Armoury  with Dr. Helen Kominek of St. Mary’s University, Calgary who will provide commentary and additional information during scheduled small group viewing sessions. Reserve your viewing session on EVENTBRITE.

Join members of ECS on the West Terrace to view artwork and memorabilia. Plan to stay for a brief celebratory program and light refreshments at 7pm.
