Notices

The ECS Facebook pages have undergone  renovation so that we can serve you better.

The Edmonton Calligraphic Society Facebook page is our official Facebook page which contains all of the latest and upcoming events for the ECS, as well as recommended sites on Calligraphy.

“Calligraphy in Edmonton” is an open group for Edmonton-and-area lettering artists to share information about calligraphy and calligraphy-related events. This group is hosted by the Edmonton Calligraphic Society (ECS) as a non-profit organization dedicated to developing and refining calligraphy and related arts in the Edmonton area.

Thank-you to all those members who made Christmas cards at the December meeting. It was a fun and creative evening and thanks to Pauline Baynes, we all had a little treat hidden in those cute pyramid boxes she made for the members. Thanks again, Pauline!! And thanks for the cookies, Gail Fournier! ECS is so fortunate to have dedicated members that go the extra mile. There are still 2017 ECS calendars for sale!!

The Edmonton Arts Council (EAC) grant application was submitted – and, five days early. Yahoo! Great work by all those who took part in the submission of this important initiative.

ECS Events and Workshops

ECS was planning to celebrate National Handwriting Day with a calligraphic art event on January 23, 2017. Unfortunately, there was not enough preparation time to plan this event. However, plans are in the works for 2018!!

A spring workshop is planned for May 6-7, 2017. Master Calligrapher LynnAnn Babuk has graciously offered to be our guest artist and she will be teaching lettering for use in jewelry making, bookmarks, writing cards, and painting. Supplies will be provided. Look for class examples at the next meeting and in future issues of Ink Drops. Registration begins at the February meeting.

ECS has been asked to provide calligraphers to write out questions for a video that is being made. The filming will take place on Tuesday, January 3rd at 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. If you would like more information or want your lettering featured, please contact an Executive team member through the website question forum asap. Pointed pen or fountain pen lettering will probably be the style used, so if you are proficient with these tools this may be a chance for you to be a video star!

If you are teaching calligraphy and/or a related art we encourage you to advertise on the ECS website.  The cost is very reasonable at $25/year. Your name and a description of your work will remain on the website for one calendar year. To check out the ECS artists currently advertising there, click on the “In the Community” page and then click on the “Business Directory.”

ECS meeting days are held on the first Wednesday of the month in Room 231 at Mill Woods Seniors and Multicultural Centre, 2610 Hewes Way, Edmonton. Because Room 231 is a studio space, refreshments cannot be served. There is a wonderful conversation area outside of the room where you are welcome to bring beverages in spill-proof containers.
