November Events Were a Big Hit

bonnie-doon

Bonnie Doon Mall Community Outreach: Once again, ECS promoted ink, paper and letters in the community! Nine talented volunteers instructed more than 100 individuals in writing a simple monoline alphabet and making seasonal gift tags.

pre-raphaelites

“Beauty’s Awakening”: Drawings by the Pre-Raphaelites and their Contemporaries from the Lanigan Collection. ECS Master Calligraphers LynnAnn Babuk and AlexisReiter were on-hand to demonstrate lettering and interact with guests at the Art Gallery of Alberta. This event was initiated by ECS member Barbara Keir who is the Donor Services Liaison at the AGA. Thanks so much Barb, LynnAnn and Alexis for your contributions to this outreach initiative.

The “Beauty’s Awakening” exhibit runs until January 3, 2017, so there is still time to see these amazing drawings. There is free admission to the AGA on the third Thursday of each month courtesy of Servus Credit Union.

jacquie

The Jacquie Myers workshops were alot of fun and the general consensus was that we will never take flourishing for granted again. Learning to work with pen pressure was challenging but enjoyable. Two new ECS members who attended the workshops received a registration fee refund thanks to the Wendy Spiers Fund.

Upcoming ECS Events and Workshops

ECS is planning to celebrate National Handwriting Day with a calligraphic art event on January 23, 2017. Ideas and input from our members is greatly welcomed in order for us to continue promoting calligraphy in our community and around the world! Be a part of the planning process.

A spring workshop is being planned for May. Master Calligrapher LynnAnn Babuk has graciously offered to be our guest artist. Keep tuned for more details.

Please go to our Class and Workshop page for further information on upcoming classes and Workshops.

Monthly Meeting

ECS meeting days are held on the first Wednesday of the month in Room 231 at Mill Woods Seniors and Multicultural Centre, 2610 Hewes Way, Edmonton. Because Room 231 is a studio space, refreshments cannot be served. There is a wonderful conversation area outside of the room where you are welcome to bring beverages in spill-proof containers.
