The Edmonton Calligraphic Society is a non-profit organization formed in February 1986. The objective of the society is to develop and refine calligraphy and related crafts among members and to introduce and promote calligraphy as an art form to the general public in and around Edmonton.
This year, the Edmonton Calligraphic Society will be celebrating its 25th anniversary! As part of the celebrations, a month-long exhibition at the Muttart Conservatory Art Gallery was held. The exhibition ran from September 9th to October 7th, 2011. During Alberta Arts Day (a free admission Sunday, September 25th), members of the Society were on hand at the Muttart, penning visitors’ names in beautiful calligraphic script. 1,000s stopped by to ask us questions, share tales and memories of days gone by writing by hand, and learn more about this reviving art form.
We meet on the first Thursday of each month on the south side of Edmonton. There are activities to practice your creativity and improve your skills at every meeting… along with snacks, raffles and goodies. If you feel inclined to serve on a committee, we have Library, Workshop, Supplies, Hospitality, Membership, Social, Anniversary, Photography and much more to interest you. You can even learn some wordpress skills by joining our Website Committee. Opportunities to showcase your work are provided regularly, in diverse mediums and environments. Membership is open to anyone regardless of calligraphic ability.
New members are welcome to join at any time during the year. Please see our membership section for an application.
Join the conversation! We are on facebook.
~Thank you and we hope to see you soon~
